Big Box Retailing And how it affects independent retailers |

Since the first Sears Catalog was mailed nationwide in the 1800’s consumers fell in love with finding many types of merchandise under one roof. As a 54 year old I watched the original Sears formula tweaked into the formula that has become successful for the Wall-Mart and the Large Home Centers.
Lawn Equipment. Leiser’s sold the Toro brand of premium Lawn and Garden equipment for 59 years and Echo hand held equipment for 35 years. Today many consumers don’t consider the benefits of service, parts, and warranty support that the premium brands offer. The owners of this low quality discount equipment ask us to perform service. We perform service on most brands however our loyal customers will be given priority in our shop. Something to consider if you need lawn equipment.
Toro and the Home Center You will find the Toro Logo displayed at the Home Center but you won’t find the premium equipment that built Toro’s reputation. This is the main reason we no longer sell Toro Equipment. We will still repair Toro equipment and we are busier then ever fixing Big Box sold Toro Equipment
Walk Power Mowers Toro dose not sell premium mowers through the Home Centers. The models that are available are stripped down models built for the discount centers. Removed is the cast aluminum deck, the premium engine 5 year warranty, in most cases assembly test running and delivery are not available.
Gas Trimmers The Toro Gas Trimmers are imported and not built by Toro We can not acquire parts for Toro Trimmers. Return the trimmer to where it was purchased for service.
Riding mowers Some of the models are built by a competitor and sold with the Toro name. Don’t confuse the current Toro Tractor with the Toro Wheel Horse Tractors.
Electric trimmers and Blowers If you bought one of these from the Home Center you picked a winner. These are the same quality sold by independent dealers and service and support is provided by any Toro Dealer.
Echo is our main brand of premium hand held lawn and garden equipment. Echo can be found in some Home Centers. The Quality is the same as what we sell and so is the price. What you don’t get at the Home Center is assembly and test running of the equipment. The Home center only sells the most popular models. We have a larger selection to supply the right tool for your needs.
Sears Craftsman Lawn Equipment When you purchase a Craftsman unit you are held under the Sears Umbrella for warranty, service and parts. We try to avoid servicing Craftsman equipment because service manuals and parts are not made available to us. We will continue to service Sears mowers and tractors but be aware that machines that need Sears parts will take extra time in our shop. Before buying a Sears Craftsman mower make sure you are comfortable with Sears service. We will not service Sears trimmer’s, chain-saws, and leaf blowers. Repair charges on Sears and other low cost handheld equipment can sometimes equal the cost of a new unit. |
